2023 marks 25 years of Seagen: 25 years of innovation, 25 years of scientific excellence, and 25 years of pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in an effort to eliminate cancer. In 1998, Seagen was dreamed up by scientists who had a vision to attack cancer in a new, targeted way, and since then, our teams have been driven by the science in the pursuit of developing revolutionary therapies with real impact.

In a relentless pursuit of our mission, we have spent the last quarter century pioneering a class of targeted cancer treatments, called antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), in order to bring new medicines to people with cancer. Unlike traditional chemotherapy, ADCs use the targeting power of antibodies to deliver potent anti-cancer drugs, or payloads, directly to target cells. These medicines have significantly impacted the oncology field and have changed the way cancer can be treated. However, ADC technology is complex, and breakthroughs have required the tireless efforts of some of the best and brightest scientists in the world – those who have devoted their life’s work to advancing cancer care.

Our scientists have always believed in the power of ADC technology and have committed their high stakes work to understanding the potential of this powerful cancer targeting approach. In fact, looking back to the 1990s when scientists were just starting to unlock the potential of first-generation ADCs, Seagen was inspired to approach things differently. We sought to create a different type of ADC delivery agent, a new drug and new linker technology that is more advanced in how it identifies and reaches a cancer cell. We tested many technologies and had quite a few false starts, but we learned a great deal along the way.

Revolutionizing Novel Cancer-targeting Approaches

Cancer continues to evolve, and so must we. With this in mind, we are continuing to advance our robust research and development engine to fuel a deep pipeline that includes 10 new molecular entities, along with new technologies and innovations that have the potential to address significant patient needs worldwide. Our research into next-generation ADC technology is designed to enhance activity and specificity, with the goal of improving the efficacy and safety of earlier ADCs. In doing so, we aim to expand the impact of this drug class by creating new therapies to potentially reach more eligible patients than ever before.

Furthermore, as part of our investment into other novel cancer-targeting approaches, like bispecific antibodies, we are partnering with other industry-leading companies to advance innovation and bring forth new targeting approaches. We believe that strategic collaborations expand the possibilities in development and can enhance the global reach of our products. With a keen eye toward the future, we are continuing our mission to innovate the next generation of cancer care, to impact more patients through better therapies.
