Program Overview

The Doctor of Pharmacy fellowship at Seagen is a one-year, post-doctoral experience designed to help prepare professionals for a promising career within the oncology biopharmaceutical industry. These oncology fellowships are uniquely challenging and rewarding as we work as a team to bring potential medicines to cancer patients around the world. Fellows in each department will gain a variety of experiences by supporting products in a cross-functional environment.

Each Fellow at Seagen is treated as a valued member of their department. Fellows are asked to take on a longitudinal project that will leave a lasting impact for their department moving forward. All Fellows will complete a set of core competencies and gain experience in certain aspects of their department; however, our Fellows have a unique advantage to tailor the experience toward areas of their individual interest. The program also provides a strong framework for professional and career development to guide the Fellow to a successful career within the biopharmaceutical industry.

For employment opportunities that match other credentials or advanced degrees, please visit the Seagen careers page located under the Join Us tab.

Is the fellowship program affiliated with a university and are there opportunities to mentor students?

While the fellowship program does not have a formal affiliation with any university, many Fellows provide mentorship for students interested in pursuing pharmaceutical industry careers.

Will Fellows have opportunities to rotate outside of their core department or area?

While each Fellow will focus on developing core competencies within their functional department, the program remains flexible enough to consider experiences to match individual interests.

Are applicants required to submit applications through Personnel Placement Services (PPS) and attend ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting?

Initial application materials may be submitted after the positions have been posted on the Seagen Careers corporate webpage or on the ASHP PPS portal (historically in October). Please do not submit your application materials by both routes.

Who should the Letter of Intent be addressed to?

The Letter of Intent can be addressed to the fellowship program directors. Another commonly used option is to address your letters more broadly to the “Fellowship Leadership Team.”

How will applicants know when professional references or letters of recommendation are needed?

Professional references or letters of recommendation will be required upon request only. You are not required to submit professional references or letters of recommendation with your initial application materials. Instead, a member of the Seagen hiring team will contact you when these materials are required.

Where do Fellows end up after successful completion of the program?

Fellowship programs are only as successful as their alumni! The Fellows are granted many opportunities for professional development to gain transferable skills and kickstart a promising career. Many of our alumni are currently continuing their early careers with Seagen, while some have moved on to develop their talents to become leaders throughout the biopharmaceutical industry.

Wilma Huang, PharmD

Product Manager, HCP Marketing
Fellowship: Marketing 2019-2020

The fellowship program is designed for high-potential PharmD’s who are seeking opportunities to learn and contribute to a fast-paced biotech environment. As the 2019 Marketing Fellow, I had the privilege of supporting the U.S. commercial launch of a new, best-in-class treatment for HER2+ breast cancer. During this time, I managed the development and execution of various HCP promotional activities across multiple marketing channels. One of the best parts of my fellowship was the support from commercial leadership as they were committed to providing a well-rounded experience. I believe the breadth and depth of experiences that I have gained through this fellowship have prepared me well as I embark on my new role within the commercial marketing organization at Seagen.

Michelle Ubowski, PharmD

Manager, Medical Communications
Fellowship: Medical Affairs 2019-2020

The fellowship program was the jumpstart I needed for a successful career in Medical Affairs. I enjoyed working not only with our marketed products, but also with our early- and late-stage pipeline, cementing my understanding of Medical Affairs’ role throughout a product’s lifecycle. The company views their Fellows as participating team members, and I had the unique opportunity to take an active role in launching a new molecule for its first FDA-labeled indication. The work was fulfilling, challenging, and I was surrounded by the brightest and most engaging colleagues I could hope for. If your goal is to work for a company that puts patients first, practices sound science, and will shape your career for the best – Seagen will not disappoint.

Jiwon Seo, PharmD

Safety Scientist, SERM
Fellowship: Drug Safety 2020-2021

The fellowship program has been a valuable experience for me to apply my clinical knowledge while gaining a thorough understanding of pharmacovigilance across the product life cycle. It is a very exciting time for anyone with a passion for oncology to become involved with the pipeline programs at Seagen. I find value and fulfillment in learning to assess the safety of medications for cancer patients and in developing relationships with the co-Fellows and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

Ryan Cecala, PharmD, MBA

Associate Manager, Medical Communications
Fellowship: Medical Affairs 2020-2021

The fellowship program is an unmatched catalyst driving the development of future biopharmaceutical industry leaders. The Medical Affairs fellowship has allowed me to gain insight and provide value to various departments throughout the organization. My projects spanning from early- to late-stage development have provided invaluable experience, unlike anything I would have found elsewhere. This fellowship program will accelerate your understanding of and kick-start a promising career in the biopharmaceutical industry.
