Lintuzumab (SGN-33)

Description

Lintuzumab (SGN-33) is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets the CD33 antigen, which is highly expressed on a number of hematologic malignancies, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and several myeloproliferative disorders. CD33 is an attractive target for antibody-based therapy because of its limited expression on normal cells.

Development Status

Seattle Genetics is conducting a phase Ib clinical trial of lintuzumab to further define its single-agent response rate in patients with AML or MDS based on encouraging data from a phase I dose-escalation trial. In addition, a phase IIb clinical trial of low-dose cytarabine plus lintuzumab or placebo for AML and a phase I study of lintuzumab plus Revlimid (lenalidomide) in patients with advanced MDS are ongoing.

Lintuzumab has orphan drug designation from the FDA for AML and MDS.
